+MorPhoSe

Synmorphose-logo-cut-shadowThe +MorPhoSe (SynMorPhoSe) laboratory of linguistics (syntax, morphology, phonetics and semantics) was founded at the beginning of academic year 2010-2011 and has as its main objective the dissemination of linguistic research as well as the exchange of scientific views within the academic community at the School of Greek language and literature of the Democritus University of Thrace.

It addresses the faculty members, PhD candidates, undergraduate students and the international scientific community. The laboratory of linguistics supports tuition in linguistics and organizes seminars and lectures for the PhD and undergraduate students delivered by Greek and foreign linguists. It also promotes activities of linguistic interest, particularly in the fields of applied linguistics, such as reading animation and creative writing workshops. Finally, it encourages work on research projects.

Greek Speaking Children Corpus

Description

The G.S.C.C includes interviews produced by sixty one children aged from three to six years old . More precisely, ten of the sixty one interviews included belong to children aged from 3 to 4 years, thirty six interviews belong to children aged from 4 to 5 years and fifteen interviews belong to children aged from 5 to 6 years.

Geographical Distribution

All of the children are Greek native speakers. The collection includes samples of children speaking the standard Greek (N=47) or the Cypriot dialect (N=13). The geographical distribution of the sample includes the following cities: Athens, Alexandroupolis, Drama, Edessa, Thessalonica, Kavala, Katerini, Kozani, Corinthus, Livadia, Viotia, Naousa, Orestiada, Trikala, Florina, Lemesos, Nicosia and Pafos.

Size

Thirty six of the children who participated in the process of the sampling are female and twenty five are male.

The size of the corpus comes up to 151.380 words and the audio recordings are approximately calculated in 45 hours of speech.
